Oake Manor Golf Club near Taunton has taken a proactive step towards ensuring the safety of its players by installing a new defibrillator on the course. This decision comes after a golfer suffered a cardiac arrest in January, highlighting the critical need for immediate access to life-saving equipment.

The incident, which could have had a tragic outcome, was averted thanks to the quick response of fellow players and the club’s first aiders, who were able to use an on-site defibrillator to revive the golfer. Following this scare, the club conducted a thorough review of its emergency protocols and decided to install a second defibrillator to further enhance player safety.

General manager Steve Purchase emphasized the importance of quick access to such equipment, noting that every minute without CPR and defibrillation decreases the chances of survival by up to 10 percent. The strategic placement of the new defibrillator on the far side of the course ensures that all players have easy access to life-saving measures in case of an emergency.

The British Heart Foundation underscores the significance of immediate treatment in cardiac arrests, urging individuals to call 999 and start CPR while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
