2024 Season Tees Off at Skipton Golf Club with New Captains Leading the Way
The 2024 season at Skipton Golf Club officially teed-off with Men’s and Women’s Captains, Ollie Burton and Sarah Howes, leading the way on the 13th tee. Despite a two-week delay due to wet weather, the club was buzzing with excitement as members gathered to watch the traditional ‘drive-in’ ceremony.
Burton, a seasoned member from Gargrave, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, highlighting the strong membership and social atmosphere at the club. He emphasized the importance of building on the foundation laid by previous leaders and nurturing the younger players who represent the future of the club.
Howes, who joined the club in 2018, thanked outgoing Captain Lorraine Raeburn for her dedication and organization. She outlined her goal of promoting female participation in golf and welcoming new members to the club.
Both Captains have chosen Motor Neurone Disease as their charity for the year, kicking off their fundraising efforts with a successful Captains Drive-In competition. The event saw members placing flags on the fairway to predict the distance of the Captains’ drives, raising £400 for the cause.
In addition to the Captains, several key appointments were announced for the new season, including Men’s Vice-Captain, Scratch Team Captain, Rabbits Captain, Juniors Captain, and more.
With a calendar full of events and activities both on and off the course, Skipton Golf Club is gearing up for an exciting year ahead. For more information on membership opportunities and upcoming events, visit www.skiptongolfclub.co.uk.
