Manon de Roey leads after second round at South African Women’s Open; Rosie Davies close behind
Manon de Roey carded a five-under 67 to grab a one-shot halfway lead in South Africa, but it was Rosie Davies who stole the show with a late birdie burst to stay within striking distance at the Ladies European Tour’s Investec South African Women’s Open.
Davies, who started the day in a share of the lead, found herself trailing De Roey after a tough round in challenging conditions at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate. However, a three-birdie finish on her final three holes propelled her to seven under, just one shot behind De Roey.
The overnight co-leader, De Roey, showcased her skills by mixing eight birdies with three bogeys to card a brilliant 67, the lowest round of the day. Her performance earned her the top spot on the leaderboard heading into the weekend.
Despite De Roey’s impressive round, Davies’ late surge kept her in contention for her maiden Ladies European Tour title. Reflecting on her round, Davies mentioned the tough conditions she faced starting on the back nine but credited her caddie for helping her stay focused and make crucial birdies when it mattered most.
With Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson, New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori, and England’s Annabell Fuller three strokes back in a share of third, the stage is set for an exciting weekend of golf in South Africa.
Fans can catch all the action live on Sky Sports Golf, with coverage continuing on Saturday from midday. Will De Roey maintain her lead, or will Davies make a comeback to claim the title? Tune in to find out.
