Nick Faldo Takes Swipe at Phil Mickelson During Masters Commentary on Sky Sports
Nick Faldo has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, and his recent comments about Phil Mickelson have certainly raised eyebrows in the golfing world. While at the pre-Masters dinner on Tuesday, Faldo and Mickelson crossed paths, and according to the six-time major champion, Mickelson was unusually quiet.
Faldo, who has been a vocal critic of LIV Golf, didn’t hold back when discussing Mickelson’s demeanor at the event. “Phil was very quiet on Tuesday, he didn’t say a word,” Faldo said during his appearance on Sky Sports. “He was dead quiet, standing next to me. I wonder why.”
The tension between Faldo and Mickelson is no secret, especially since Mickelson made the controversial decision to join LIV Golf in 2022. Faldo has been a staunch opponent of the Saudi-backed tour, questioning its sustainability and the caliber of players it attracts.
In addition to his comments about Mickelson, Faldo also took a swipe at Jon Rahm, suggesting that the Spaniard needs to up his game and show more intensity. “He’s a hell of a player, but he’s going to have to make a little bit more effort to step it up and get the right intensity,” Faldo remarked. “He has been playing resort courses in his shorts for the last couple of months and hasn’t really been tested yet.”
As the Masters unfolds at Augusta, it will be interesting to see if Faldo’s comments have any impact on the players he criticized. With his no-nonsense approach and willingness to speak his mind, Faldo continues to be a polarizing figure in the world of golf commentary.
