Fiery Exchange Between Dean Burmester and Adelaide Crowd Member at LIV Golf Team Playoff
LIV Golf star Dean Burmester found himself in the midst of a heated exchange with an Adelaide crowd member during the first-ever team playoff of the breakaway league on Sunday. The tension was palpable as Burmester, alongside his Stinger captain Louis Oosthuizen, went head-to-head against home favorites Ripper GC in a playoff to determine the team champion after Sunday’s final round.
Both LIV Golf teams were tied at an impressive 53-under-par for the week, leading to a nail-biting finish. The tension escalated as Burmester and Oosthuizen represented Stinger, while the Australian duo Cam Smith and Marc Leishman fought for Ripper in the playoff.
Despite the intense competition, the Australian crowd threw their support behind Smith and Leishman, creating a boisterous atmosphere around the 18th hole. As the pressure mounted, Burmester narrowly missed his putt, leading to a return to the tee. Amid ongoing heckling from the crowd, Burmester managed to secure a clear approach into the green, showcasing his composure under pressure.
However, the heckling seemed to rattle Burmester, as he yelled at the Adelaide spectators to “Shut the f*** up!” during his second shot. Despite the distractions, Burmester kept his cool, but it was Ripper who ultimately sealed the victory in front of their home fans.
Aussie favorite Smith praised the atmosphere at The Grange following his team’s triumph, stating that the event had exceeded his expectations. Burmester also reflected on the tournament, calling it the best he has ever played, even surpassing his victory at The Open at St Andrews in 2022. The intense playoff and fiery exchange with the crowd member added an extra layer of drama to the inaugural team event of LIV Golf.
