Outspoken Liv Golf supremo Greg Norman has revealed that discussions have taken place regarding the possibility of switching to a 72-hole format for the Saudi-backed breakaway tour. Norman, who is currently in Australia for a marquee event, expressed optimism about the future of the tour following talks aimed at establishing a long-term working relationship between all parties involved.

The current format implemented by the renegade tour consists of 54 holes with no cut over the three days of play. However, Norman emphasized that extending the LIV format to 72 holes is being considered as a potential option to enhance the event.

During a press conference in Adelaide, Norman stated, “It’s a great conversation to have. We will continue to have that conversation going forward. But we sit back and say, what value do we get on putting on television on Thursday. How do we build out in the future? There are things that we sit back and look at to see what is the most optimal solution to make this a better and better and better event, and 72 holes is discussed.”

In response to rumors suggesting that PGA superstar Rory McIlroy could be considering a move to LIV, Norman clarified that no official offer had been made to the player. He expressed openness to engaging in discussions with McIlroy or any other player interested in joining the tour, emphasizing the global opportunities that LIV can offer.

As McIlroy contemplates a potential return to the PGA policy board, Norman’s comments shed light on the ongoing developments within the golfing world and the competitive landscape between traditional tours and emerging alternatives like Liv Golf. The future of the sport remains uncertain, but discussions and negotiations continue to shape the direction it will take in the coming years.
