Kansas Men’s Golf Team Qualifies for Eighth Straight NCAA Regional
The Kansas men’s golf team is gearing up for their eighth consecutive NCAA regional appearance, as they were selected as the No. 11 seed in the Rancho Santa Fe regional. The tournament will take place at The Farms Golf Club just north of San Diego from May 13-15, with the top five schools advancing to the NCAA Championship on May 24-29 at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California.
Last season, the Jayhawks had a thrilling regional competition as freshman Will King emerged as the top individual scorer after an intense eight-hole playoff. This year, the team kicked off the season with senior Cecil Belisle winning his first event at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Michigan, followed by another victory by King at the Gopher Invitational in Minnesota.
Despite some ups and downs in team performance during the spring season, the Jayhawks secured their spot in the regional tournament. Head coach Jamie Bermel expressed his excitement for the opportunity, stating, “It is the expectation at KU that we play golf in May. Hats off to the guys, we had a pretty good year, but the best is yet to come.”
The Rancho Santa Fe regional will feature tough competition from schools like Arizona State, Washington, and Oklahoma. The Jayhawks are ready to face the challenge and showcase their skills on the course.
In addition to the men’s team, the KU women’s golf team will also be participating in regional competition at Tumble Creek Golf Club in Washington. Both teams are looking to make their mark in the postseason and represent the crimson and blue with pride. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey through the NCAA regionals.
