Defending Masters Champion Jon Rahm Calls for LIV Golf to Adopt 72-Hole Format
In a bold move to help reunify the divided sport of golf, defending Masters champion Jon Rahm has called on LIV Golf to adopt the 72-hole tournament format used by the PGA Tour. Rahm, who made the switch to LIV Golf in December, believes that this change could help bridge the gap between the two competing leagues.
Speaking to the British Broadcasting Corporation, Rahm expressed his support for the move, stating, “If there ever was a way where LIV could go to 72 holes, I think it would help all of this argument a lot. The closer I think we can get LIV Golf to some other things the better. I think it would be for some kind of unification to feed into a world tour or something like that.”
The ongoing war between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf took a surprising turn last June when a “framework agreement” was announced for the PIF, which backs LIV, to invest in PGA Tour Enterprises. Despite talks between the two sides dragging on, there is hope for a resolution in the near future.
As the Masters tournament approaches, Rahm is one of 13 LIV Golf players set to compete at Augusta National Golf Club. His defection to LIV Golf in December sent shockwaves through the golf world, and Rahm acknowledges the impact his decision has had on the sport.
With the potential for PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan to attend this year’s Masters, all eyes will be on the tournament as the golf world eagerly awaits the outcome of the ongoing battle between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
