Fred Couples Impressed by Tiger Woods Ahead of Masters Tournament
Fred Couples has been playing golf with Tiger Woods this week ahead of the Masters, and the 1992 champion has nothing but praise for the 48-year-old’s performance. Despite Woods’ injury record over the past decade, Couples believes his compatriot is ready to challenge for a sixth Masters triumph at Augusta.
“I just watched him play nine holes, and nine holes are only nine holes on a Tuesday, but he never mishits a shot,” Couples said. “He just hits so good. The idea of making a cut – I think he would laugh at that because he’s not here to do that; he’s here to win. He’s here to play really, really hard.”
Woods, a five-time Masters champion, last won the prestigious tournament in 2019. He returns this year looking to add to his legacy, despite admitting to being in pain at times.
“The body – things just flare up,” Woods said at a press conference on Tuesday. “The training that we have to do at home changes on a day-to-day basis. Some days I just feel really good and some days not so much.”
Despite his physical challenges, Woods remains determined to achieve more success at Augusta. He also has an offer to be captain of Team USA at the next Ryder Cup in 2025, but he is focused on the task at hand.
“We’re still talking about it,” Woods said of the Ryder Cup captaincy. “Let me focus on this week and hopefully getting another jacket. And then we can talk about it next week.”
As Woods prepares to tee off at the Masters, golf fans around the world will be watching closely to see if he can add another chapter to his storied career.
