Tiger Woods to Compete in 124th US Open at Pinehurst
Legendary golfer Tiger Woods has accepted a special exemption to play in the 124th US Open next month at Pinehurst, marking his 23rd appearance at the prestigious event. The three-time US Open champion has been battling severe leg injuries sustained in a 2021 car crash, leading to doubts about his future in the sport. Currently ranked 789th in the world, Woods required a special exemption to compete in this year’s tournament.
In a statement, Woods expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete in the US Open, a championship that holds a special place in his heart. USGA chief championships officer John Bodenhamer praised Woods’ contributions to the game, stating that the tournament is “simply better when Tiger is in the field.”
Despite his physical limitations, Woods is determined to play one tournament a month for the rest of the year, starting with the PGA Championship at Valhalla in May. He is looking forward to the challenge of competing at the highest level and has set his sights on the US Open at Pinehurst in June, followed by the British Open at Royal Troon in Scotland.
Woods’ most recent US Open victory came in 2008, when he famously won a playoff despite playing with a broken leg. Despite recent struggles, Woods remains a fan favorite and a major draw for spectators. Golf fans around the world will be eagerly anticipating his return to the course at Pinehurst next month.
