Women in Sport Scramble at Druids Glen Golf Club: A Day of Smiles and Laughter
The Women in Sport Scramble at Druids Glen Golf Club was a roaring success, with laughter and smiles filling the air as 60 golfers teed off alongside host Jacqui Hurley. The event, now in its third year and sponsored by AIG, brought together golfers from ten different sporting backgrounds, as well as representatives from the media, NGBs, and Sport Ireland.
Hurley, who hosted the inaugural event in 2022, expressed her delight at the turnout and emphasized the importance of creating events that bring the sports community together. The field included notable names such as Sinéad Aherne, Nicci Daly, and Leona Maguire, who all took to the course with enthusiasm and a competitive spirit.
Golf Ireland’s efforts to get more women and girls involved in golf were evident at the event, with initiatives like Chip&Chat aiming to bridge the gap and create a welcoming environment for all. Hurley, who only picked up golf during the pandemic, has been instrumental in organizing the event and promoting the sport among women.
The day was filled with camaraderie, laughter, and a shared love for the game of golf. With Sinéad McHugh, Brian Quinn, and Sarah Rose Shelley leading the way, participants enjoyed a day of learning, networking, and fun on the course. Tracey Bunyan’s impressive chip shot even earned her the Nearest the Pin trophy, showcasing the talent and skill on display throughout the day.
As Golf Ireland continues to grow and expand its reach, events like the Women in Sport Scramble serve as a reminder of the power of sport to bring people together and build lasting relationships. With plans for future events already in the works, the future looks bright for women in sport and the golfing community as a whole.
