Greg Norman Jr. defends his father after Couples jokes on social media – Norman says he had a great reception at The Masters
Greg Norman Jr. came to the defense of his father after Masters champion Fred Couples took a playful jab at the LIV Golf commissioner for reportedly buying his own ticket to attend the tournament at Augusta National. Couples joked on social media about how none of the 13 LIV Golfers in the field could get ‘The Shark’ a ticket, prompting a response from Greg Jr.
In a fiery reply, Greg Jr. explained that his father had always intended to purchase a ticket and had actually requested to buy one directly from the tournament. When the request was denied, Norman decided to buy a ticket anyway to do the right thing. Greg Jr. emphasized that his father’s intention was not to get a free ticket but to highlight the positive reception he received at Augusta National.
Contrary to the reception Jon Rahm received at the Masters, Greg Norman Sr. spoke highly of the warm welcome he received from fans and even security personnel at the tournament. Norman expressed his belief that LIV Golf’s platform fits within the golf ecosystem and is beneficial for the game.
On the other hand, Jon Rahm admitted that some people he was close with did not even acknowledge him at Augusta due to his defection to LIV Golf. However, the 2023 Masters champion remained unfazed, stating that if someone changes their opinion of him, it is their problem, not his.
Overall, the banter between Couples and Norman added a light-hearted touch to the Masters tournament, while Greg Norman Jr.’s defense shed light on his father’s positive experience at Augusta National.
