The University of Arkansas men’s golf team faced tough competition at the SEC Men’s Golf Championships on Thursday, as they fell one spot to eighth place despite a solid 2-under 278 performance. The Razorbacks are currently sitting at 3 under for the tournament, just three shots above the cut line for match play.
Leading the pack is No. 2 Vanderbilt, who fired a 4-under on Thursday to reach an impressive 15 under, giving them a four-stroke lead over No. 3 Georgia and No. 15 Florida, who made the biggest move of the day with a tournament-best 10 under.
No. 1 Auburn is holding strong in fourth place at 10 under, followed by No. 7 Tennessee, No. 22 Texas A&M, and Alabama. Arkansas is the only other team under par, with a four-shot lead over No. 5 Ole Miss.
The Razorbacks had a consistent day on the course, with all five players shooting between 69 and 71. Senior Jacob Skov Olesen is leading the team at 3 under, tied for 14th place, while senior John Driscoll is tied for 33rd at 1 over. Senior Christian Castillo and junior Matthis Lefevre are also in the mix, both at 1 under and 1 over, respectively. Freshman Thomas Curry rounds out the team at 2 over, tied for 40th place.
Auburn’s Jackson Koivun continues to impress, shooting a second 4-under 66 to lead the field at 8 under. He’s closely followed by Florida’s Jack Turner, who carded a 65 on Thursday, the best round of the tournament so far.
As the competition heats up, the Razorbacks will need to bring their A-game in the remaining rounds to secure their spot in match play. Stay tuned for more updates on the SEC Men’s Golf Championships.
