Circuits Fighting for F1 Renewals Amid Skyrocketing Popularity and Demand
Zandvoort Circuit Director Takes a Dig at F1 While Discussing Future Renovations
The world of Formula 1 is not just about the races on the track anymore. With the increasing demand for hosting F1 races and the lucrative returns they bring, circuits have become a crucial part of the F1 silly season. One such circuit facing the heat is Zandvoort, the host circuit for the Dutch GP.
The biggest criticism Zandvoort faced was due to its lack of space around the paddock and pit lanes. Teams couldn’t double stack in the crammed up pit lane, prompting the FIA and FOM to demand an increase in space. Zandvoort Circuit Director Robert van Overdijk revealed that the pit lane has now been extended with six new pit boxes to accommodate double stacking.
Interestingly, van Overdijk took a dig at F1 by pointing out the exemptions given to Monaco, where even shorter distances are allowed. He emphasized that Zandvoort is fully compliant with FIA standards to secure a renewal, highlighting the circuit’s efforts to meet the demands set by the governing bodies.
With the Dutch GP organizers successfully securing an extension in 2022, Zandvoort is now gearing up for another round of negotiations. The circuit’s modern return in 2021 has been a hit among fans, especially with the rise of Dutch world champion Max Verstappen.
The ongoing renovations at Zandvoort are a testament to their commitment to meeting FIA and FOM standards. As the circuit aims for a long-term renewal, the investments made now are expected to pay off in the future. Fans can expect an even better racing experience at Zandvoort as they continue to strive for excellence in hosting F1 events.
