Lewis Hamilton’s Epic Idea for F1 and Moto GP Joint Race Weekends

F1 and Moto GP fans were left in awe as Liberty Media, the owners of Formula 1, announced the acquisition of Moto GP for a staggering €4.2 billion on April 1st. This move solidified Liberty Media’s position as the owners of two of the biggest championship categories in motorsport.

The news of the acquisition sparked excitement not only among fans but also among F1 drivers, including the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton, a self-proclaimed Moto GP enthusiast, expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility of joint race weekends with Moto GP. He even jokingly suggested the idea of racing in both Moto GP and F1 on the same weekend, although he later admitted that it would be “impossible”.

With Liberty Media taking over 86% stake from Dorna Sports, the current owner of Moto GP, the future of the motorbike racing series looks promising. Hamilton himself praised Liberty Media for the transformation they brought to F1 since 2018 and expressed hope that they would do the same for Moto GP.

This is not the first time F1 and Moto GP have crossed paths. In 2019, Hamilton and Moto GP legend Valentino Rossi swapped rides, with Hamilton getting the chance to ride Rossi’s Yamaha Moto GP bike while Rossi drove Hamilton’s F1 car. Both drivers were thrilled with the experience, with Hamilton acknowledging the challenges faced by Moto GP riders due to the lack of seatbelts and the inherent danger in the sport.

As Liberty Media gears up to make marketable changes in Moto GP, fans can expect an exciting future for both F1 and Moto GP under the ownership of the media giant. The possibility of joint race weekends and collaborations between the two series could open up new opportunities for motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.
