The Formula 1 season is in full swing as the drivers head to Suzuka for the Japanese Grand Prix, marking the fourth round of the 2024 season. This year, the event takes place in April for the first time in its history, with the race set to take place on Sunday at 6am.

In the previous race in Australia, Carlos Sainz led Ferrari to a one-two finish, ending Max Verstappen’s winning streak. Verstappen, who had won the previous nine races, suffered his first retirement in two years due to a brake issue. Lando Norris secured third place, adding to his impressive tally of podium finishes without a win.

McLaren is expected to perform well at Suzuka, with Norris and Oscar Piastri having a double podium at the Japanese GP six months ago. However, Mercedes is facing challenges with correlation issues affecting their car’s performance on track.

The Japanese GP has been moved to April as part of F1’s sustainability efforts, with the aim of becoming net zero carbon by 2030. The race will feature similar conditions to its usual autumn date, with the possibility of rain and temperatures in the late teens.

Suzuka, a high-speed circuit popular among drivers, recently signed a contract extension to remain on the calendar until at least 2029. F1 president Stefano Domenicali expressed his gratitude to the promoter and Honda MobilityLand for supporting the sport’s sustainability efforts.

Fans can catch all the action live on Sky Sports F1, with coverage of every session throughout the weekend. The Japanese Grand Prix promises to be an exciting race with top teams and drivers battling it out on the iconic Suzuka circuit.
