Ferrari Team Principal Cautions on Potential Tire Wear Issues Despite Strong Start in 2024 Season
Ferrari’s strong start to the 2024 Formula 1 season has been nothing short of impressive, with the team securing podium finishes in all four rounds and a stunning victory in Melbourne. However, despite their early success, team principal Fred Vasseur is not getting ahead of himself and has issued a word of caution regarding potential tire wear issues that could resurface, especially in untested conditions like China’s colder temperatures.
Vasseur highlighted that while the SF-24 F1 car has shown improved tire management in the current season, it has yet to prove its prowess in cold conditions. With the Chinese Grand Prix set to return to the calendar after a five-year absence, Vasseur sees this as an opportunity to evaluate the car’s performance under different weather conditions.
Speaking after the Japanese GP in Suzuka, Vasseur acknowledged the team’s progress in tire management but emphasized the need to continue improving in other areas to stay competitive. He stressed that the team cannot afford to rest on their laurels and must be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead, especially with the unpredictable nature of tire wear.
As Ferrari gears up for the Chinese Grand Prix, Vasseur is looking forward to testing the car in colder conditions and assessing its performance across various parameters. With the team’s strong start to the season, all eyes will be on Ferrari as they aim to maintain their momentum and overcome any potential challenges that come their way.
