DAZN Secures Exclusive Broadcast Rights for Formula 1 in Portugal
In a groundbreaking move, the global streaming platform DAZN has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights for Formula 1 in Portugal for the next three seasons. This deal secures coverage for the 2025, 2026, and 2027 F1 seasons, offering Portuguese viewers live coverage of every race, practice sessions, qualifying rounds, and sprint races, all with Portuguese commentary.
But the agreement doesn’t stop at F1. DAZN has also secured the rights to broadcast Formula 2, Formula 3, F1 Academy, and the Porsche Supercup for the Portuguese audience. This comprehensive package of motorsports content aims to cater to the growing interest in motorsport in Portugal.
Jorge Pavão de Sousa, General Director of DAZN in Portugal, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “We want to continue the growth of motorsport in Portugal and, above all, continue to value our product for sports fans. The next Formula 1 seasons promise to bring a lot of new features that will have an impact on the competition.”
This move solidifies DAZN’s position in the Portuguese sports streaming market, especially after renewing exclusive rights to broadcast LALIGA matches live in Italy and Portugal for an additional five years. By acquiring these motorsport rights, DAZN positions itself as a one-stop destination for Portuguese sports fans, offering a wide range of sports content.
The agreement highlights the increasing popularity of F1 in European markets, with the ongoing 2024 season heating up with the Miami Grand Prix. Reigning champion Max Verstappen leads the driver standings, closely followed by teammate Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc, and Carlos Sainz Jr. In the constructor standings, Oracle Red Bull Racing Honda RBPT holds the top spot.
With DAZN’s latest acquisition, Portuguese sports fans can look forward to an exciting lineup of motorsports content in the coming seasons, solidifying the platform’s position as a premier destination for sports entertainment.
