Daniel Ricciardo left heartbroken after horror crash in China Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo has been left heartbroken after his China Grand Prix race ended in horror fashion, with Lance Stroll crashing into the back of his car. The incident occurred as the entire grid bunched up behind the safety car, preparing to get back underway when chaos unfolded on the second last corner.
Ricciardo, who had been sitting inside the top 10 after a great weekend, was the unlucky one in the bunch as Stroll failed to react in time and slammed into the back of his car, ultimately forcing the team to retire the car a few laps later. The impact ruined Ricciardo’s Visa CashApp RB and left him feeling dejected as he addressed the incident post-race.
The Australian driver expressed his frustration, stating that Stroll’s lack of awareness and judgment led to the collision. Ricciardo was particularly incensed when he heard Stroll’s comments on team radio, calling him an idiot and blaming him for the incident.
Despite the disappointment, Ricciardo acknowledged the positive signs from the weekend and believes the team will bounce back from this setback. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen claimed his fourth victory of the season, with Lando Norris and Sergio Perez rounding out the podium.
Fellow Australian Oscar Piastri also had a strong showing, finishing in eighth place despite dealing with a damaged car late in the race. The Formula 1 paddock will now head to the United States for the next race in Miami on May 6.
