Reese Witherspoon Teams Up with Netflix to Spotlight Women in Formula 1 Racing
Reese Witherspoon, known for her portrayal of empowered female characters on-screen, is now venturing into the world of Formula 1 racing with Netflix. The streaming giant is currently working on a new sports documentary titled F1 Academy, which will focus on Formula 1’s women-only developmental division.
The docuseries, set to premiere in 2025, will follow 15 female drivers across all 5 F1 Academy teams, delving into the drama of motorsport races and sharing their personal stories as they break barriers in one of the most challenging sports in the world. Susie Wolff, the managing director of F1 Academy, expressed excitement about the global launch of the docuseries, stating that it is a significant step forward in encouraging more women to participate in racing sports.
Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, is producing F1 Academy in partnership with Netflix. Witherspoon aims to reshape the narrative for women in sports, highlighting the stories of dynamic and fearless female drivers. She praised Susie Wolff for creating new opportunities for women in the world of motorsport and emphasized the importance of putting women at the forefront of these stories to attract audiences and generate widespread interest.
Witherspoon, who co-founded Hello Sunshine in 2016, is dedicated to supporting women’s authorship and championing diverse narratives. The production company has been behind acclaimed shows like Big Little Lies, The Morning Show, and Little Fires Everywhere.
F1 Academy joins the ranks of Netflix sports documentaries like Formula 1: Drive to Survive, known for sparking interest and awareness about Formula 1. The new docuseries aims to inspire and empower the next generation of young women as it showcases the stories of women drivers in the world of Formula 1 racing.
