Andretti F1 Team Continues Pursuit Despite Rejection: “A Point Where They Can’t Say No”

Michael Andretti, the former McLaren F1 driver, remains undeterred in his pursuit of bringing his American outfit to the Formula 1 grid despite their recent rejection for the 2025-2026 seasons. Andretti, along with General Motors brand Cadillac, had their application turned down by F1 earlier this year, citing concerns over competitiveness and value to the championship.

However, Andretti is not giving up on his dream of entering F1 and recently opened a new UK base at Silverstone with around 120 staff working on the project. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Andretti emphasized the importance of General Motors’ involvement in their bid, stating that once everyone understands the magnitude of their project, it will be a point where F1 cannot say no.

While F1 has left the door open for a potential entry in 2028 if Andretti secures a full engine supply deal from General Motors, the team is pushing for an earlier debut in 2026. Andretti believes that having General Motors build an F1 engine from 2028 makes more sense for the team to enter the championship sooner to ensure they are competitive when their own engine is ready.

Despite facing rejection from F1 and opposition from existing teams, Andretti remains confident that their entry would benefit the sport, especially in the United States market. With an all-American team, car, engine, and driver, Andretti believes their unique approach will help grow the sport and attract a new audience.

While the immediate future of Andretti’s F1 entry remains uncertain, the team is determined to make their mark on the championship and continue their dialogue with Formula One Management. With their ambitious plans and strong backing from General Motors, Andretti is poised to shake up the F1 grid in the coming years.
