College Football Transfer Portal Update: Deadline Approaching and Team Analysis

The spring transfer portal madness is in full swing as the deadline to enter the portal has passed, but the player movement is far from over. With many notable departures and commitments already in place, let’s take a look at how some area teams are faring in the transfer market.

Starting with the Texas Longhorns, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have been busy securing marquee transfer commitments to bolster their roster. With 24 players in the portal, including standout quarterback Maalik Murphy, the Longhorns have already landed star Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond and tight end Amari Niblack, among others. Their efforts have earned them the seventh-best portal class nationally.

Over at Texas A&M, new head coach Mike Elko has been aggressive in rebuilding the roster, with 30 players in the portal and commitments from 27 players. The Aggies have secured commitments from top players like wide receiver Evan Stewart and defensive lineman Walter Nolen, ranking them second nationally in incoming transfers.

SMU has seen 16 players transfer out and 15 transfer in so far, with Oklahoma’s Savion Byrd and Deuce Harmon being notable additions to the Mustangs’ roster. However, the most notable storyline for SMU is the transfer of Teddy Knox, who was suspended for his involvement in a hit-and-run incident.

TCU, looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, has added key players like James Brockermeyer and Kaleb Elarms-Orr to their roster. With 21 transfer commitments, the Horned Frogs have the 20th-ranked transfer class.

Lastly, Texas Tech and Baylor are also active in the transfer market, with the Red Raiders securing commitments from promising players like Jalin Conyers and Josh Kelly, while the Bears have added quarterback Dequan Finn and receiver Ashtyn Hawkins to their roster.

As the transfer portal continues to shape college rosters, these area teams are making moves to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as the transfer market heats up.
