Community Sports Shop Opens in Great Yarmouth to Help Those on Low Incomes
A new community sports shop has opened its doors in Great Yarmouth, aiming to make sports and leisure activities more accessible to those on low incomes. Good Sports, located in the Market Gates Shopping Centre, was officially launched on Friday, offering a range of donated sports clothing and equipment at affordable prices.
The project, spearheaded by Jack Jay, chairman of Great Yarmouth Town Football Club, aims to remove the financial barriers that often prevent people from participating in sports. By selling donated items such as clothing, trainers, equipment, and more, the shop will generate funds to support community events and initiatives.
Shop manager Karen Wright highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that many children in the town’s football club junior leagues struggle to afford proper kit. The shop provides a solution by allowing people to donate their unwanted sports items and purchase affordable gear as needed.
Trevor Saunders, director of Great Yarmouth Town Community Interest Company, emphasized the shop’s role in promoting physical and mental well-being through sports and leisure activities. By making sports equipment more accessible, the project aims to encourage more people to get active and improve their overall health.
With the rising cost of living making it difficult for many to afford sports and leisure kit, Good Sports provides a much-needed resource for the community. The shop’s mission to support inclusivity and participation in sports aligns with its founders’ vision of creating a more active and engaged community.
