2024 NFL Draft Recap: Historic Offensive-Heavy First Round
The 2024 NFL Draft kicked off with a bang as a record-breaking 23 offensive players were selected in the first round, including a streak of 14 consecutive offensive players to start the draft. The offensive onslaught was highlighted by the selection of quarterback Caleb Williams by the Chicago Bears with the first overall pick.
However, the most surprising pick of the night came towards the end of the top 10 when the Atlanta Falcons selected quarterback Michael Penix Jr. This move raised eyebrows as the Falcons had recently signed Kirk Cousins to a lucrative contract earlier in the offseason.
In addition to the offensive frenzy, quarterbacks also made history by tying a record with six of them being selected in the first round, matching the legendary 1983 class. The quarterback run culminated with Bo Nix being picked by the Denver Broncos with the 12th overall selection.
As the draft moves into the second and third rounds on Friday, the Buffalo Bills hold the 33rd overall pick and will be looking to add more talent to their roster. The draft will continue at 7 p.m. ET from Detroit, where the event is being held in the area around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit, less than a mile from Ford Field, home of the Lions.
