Josh Murphy inspired Oxford to a stunning 5-0 victory over Peterborough in a League One clash that showcased the U’s dominance on the pitch. Despite missing key players Elliott Moore and Cameron Brannagan, Oxford put on a masterclass performance that keeps them on track for the League One play-offs.
The game started with a bang as Jadel Katongo fouled Murphy in the box, leading to Mark Harris converting a penalty in the 19th minute. Murphy then showcased his skills by heading in keeper Jed Steer’s clearance to make it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark. The pacy midfielder continued to shine as he set up Ruben Rodrigues for the third goal in the 39th minute.
Oxford’s dominance was evident as Owen Dale hit the post and missed an open goal before the interval. Despite some chances for Peterborough, including Ricky-Jade Jones hitting the underside of the bar, Oxford remained in control.
The second half saw Rodrigues score his second goal of the game with a sublime diving header after 58 minutes to make it 4-0. Greg Leigh then hit the post before substitute Billy Bodin sealed the victory with a fine individual effort in the 89th minute.
