Ohio High School Athletic Association Announces Preliminary Divisional Assignments for Fall Sports
The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has announced the preliminary divisional assignments for its remaining fall sports, following last week’s unveiling of the new football divisional alignments. The alignments are subject to change if a referendum is passed later this spring, allowing schools to move up to Division I.
Soccer and volleyball will see an increase in the number of divisions this fall, with boys and girls soccer expanding to five divisions each and girls volleyball expanding to seven divisions. Other sports like cross country, golf, and girls tennis will maintain the same number of divisions as last year, while field hockey will remain in one division.
All sports are being reshuffled based on new base enrollment data for the OHSAA’s two-year cycle. Only soccer and volleyball will use competitive balance, similar to football, in the fall.
The breakdowns by division for the fall sports alignments have been announced by the OHSAA, with links provided for each sport. Boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball, cross country, golf, and girls tennis will all have multiple divisions to accommodate the varying levels of competition.
