Empowering Girls Through Football: Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate PSP Girls’ Football Program
Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate (QE) is making waves in the world of girls’ football with their dedicated Girls’ Football Performance Sport Pathway (PSP). The PSP, which takes place in QE’s state-of-the-art Sports Village on campus, has seen a surge in popularity following the success of the Lionesses and the growth of women’s football in the UK.
Since the 2022 Euro win, QE has experienced a significant increase in demand for girls’ football, prompting the decision to separate the boys and girls football PSP. This move has allowed the girls’ team to have their own dedicated coach who can focus on developing their skills and fostering team cohesion.
The girls involved in the PSP are thrilled with the opportunity to train and compete at a higher level. Year 10 striker Freya expressed her excitement, stating, “We suddenly had 4 teams after the Euros; U13, U14, U15, U16!” The girls are benefiting from individualized coaching, nutrition plans, strength and conditioning training, and mental preparation, all aimed at helping them reach their full potential on the field.
Girls’ Football Coach, Sam Westhead, has been impressed with the progress of the team, noting their development both individually and collectively. Lead Football Coach, Paul Bolland, is excited about the momentum building in girls’ football at QE and looks forward to further developing the program.
The Girls’ Football PSP at QE offers a comprehensive training program that includes curriculum lessons, after-school training sessions, and competitive fixtures in national and local competitions. With access to top-notch facilities and expert coaching, the girls at QE are well-equipped to succeed in the world of football.
