Former England flanker Maggie Alphonsi expresses frustration over England’s dominant win against Scotland in Women’s Six Nations 2024

In a dominating performance, defending champions England secured a resounding 46-0 victory over Scotland in the Women’s Six Nations 2024 tournament. The Red Roses showcased their superiority by scoring eight tries and controlling every aspect of the game, even after being reduced to 14 players following Amy Cokayne’s red card in the second half.

Former England flanker Maggie Alphonsi expressed her frustration at the lack of competition in the tournament, emphasizing the importance of closing the gap between the teams. Despite Scotland’s efforts to capitalize on the numerical advantage, they failed to put any pressure on the English side and were unable to register a single point.

The statistics speak volumes about England’s dominance in the Women’s Six Nations, having won every title since 2019 and maintaining an unbeaten streak of 27 matches. Scotland, on the other hand, have shown signs of improvement since introducing full-time professional contracts in 2022, but still have a long way to go to challenge the Red Roses.

Injured Scotland number eight Jade Konkel highlighted the need for time and development to bridge the gap with England, drawing parallels to Ireland’s rise in 2013 after securing professional contracts. While former England hooker Brian Moore acknowledged the disparity in quality between the teams, he emphasized the importance of focusing on individual development rather than faulting England for their dominance.

As the Women’s Six Nations progresses, the spotlight remains on how teams like Scotland can continue to evolve and challenge the reigning champions, ensuring a more competitive and engaging tournament for all involved.
