Swansea City Coach Luke Williams Discusses Nathan Wood’s Contract Situation
Swansea City head coach Luke Williams has hinted that defender Nathan Wood could be sold this summer due to his contract situation. The 21-year-old center-back, who has made 29 appearances this season, is under contract until 2025 after Swansea triggered a one-year extension to his current deal last month.
Williams acknowledged that while it is possible for Wood to sign a new long-term agreement, the current circumstances may lead to a transfer. “There’s an obvious conclusion to be drawn there, that this might be the correct moment [to sell] because it makes sense all round maybe,” Williams said.
Swansea paid around £400,000 to sign Wood from Middlesbrough in 2022, and rejected two offers worth up to £10m from Southampton last summer. However, with Wood reportedly keen on the move to Southampton, there is speculation that a transfer could happen in the upcoming window.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Wood’s future, Williams praised the player’s abilities, stating, “He is an unreal player – we love him to pieces.” Wood has played 74 games for Swansea, scoring once, and is set to feature against Millwall in the final game of the season.
While Williams did not rule out the possibility of Wood recommitting to Swansea, he emphasized the reality of player transfers in the football industry. “All clubs have the possibility to sell a player… The players all have a price, that’s the truth,” Williams said.
As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Nathan Wood and whether he will remain with Swansea City or seek a new challenge elsewhere.
