Lizzie Deignan pushing through pain to recover from broken arm and return to top form
British cyclist Lizzie Deignan is facing a tough road to recovery after breaking her arm in a crash during the Women’s Tour of Flanders race in March. The 35-year-old, who returned to cycling last year after taking a sabbatical in 2022, has been advised to push through the pain in order to regain full mobility in her arm.
Deignan, a former winner of some of the sport’s biggest races, including La Course by Tour de France and the inaugural Paris Roubaix Femmes, is determined to get back to her winning ways after giving birth to her second child. She is currently in the final year of her contract at Trek and is aiming to prove her fitness for this summer’s Paris Olympics.
Despite the challenges she is facing, Deignan remains optimistic about her recovery and is already putting in the hard work on the turbo trainer in her garage. She acknowledges that the road to recovery will be tough, but she is determined to push herself to the limit in order to achieve her goals.
Deignan’s husband, former Team Sky rider Philip Deignan, has been a source of support and guidance throughout her recovery process. With the Women’s Tour of Britain on the horizon in June, Deignan sees the race as a crucial opportunity to prove her fitness for the Olympics and secure her spot on the team.
As she navigates the challenges of recovery and prepares for the upcoming races, Deignan remains focused on her ultimate goal of returning to the top of the podium. With her determination and resilience, there is no doubt that she will overcome this setback and come back stronger than ever.
