Campaign to Improve Respect and Positive Behavior in Manx Junior Football: It’s Everyone’s Game Initiative [PA Media]
The Isle of Man Football Association (IOMFA) is taking a proactive approach to address the increase in reported incidents of poor behavior during junior football matches with the launch of the It’s Everyone’s Game initiative. This campaign aims to promote respect and positive behavior among players, coaches, and spectators to enhance the overall experience of the game.
David O’Flanagan, the leader of the campaign, emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for junior players to play freely, communicate effectively, and make their own decisions on the field. The initiative will involve restricting access to the playing arenas, with only coaches and players allowed inside while spectators watch from outside behind barriers. Additionally, participants will be encouraged to applaud each other as a sign of respect.
While these measures may be seen as unpopular by some, Mr. O’Flanagan highlighted the common practice of spectators watching junior football matches from outside the arenas. The campaign will also include symbolic gestures such as players and coaches signing a flag and exchanging applause with spectators before and after matches.
Leaflets detailing the expected behaviors have been distributed to clubs to reinforce the message of respect and positive conduct. The IOMFA’s initiative aligns with the broader respect campaign launched by the Football Association in the UK, demonstrating a commitment to fostering a culture of sportsmanship and fair play in junior football.
By promoting respect and positive behavior on and off the field, the It’s Everyone’s Game initiative aims to create a more enjoyable and inclusive environment for all participants involved in Manx junior football.
