Sky Cancels Fantasy Football League: Producer Confirms Show Won’t Return
Sky Sports has made the tough decision to cancel its popular football show, Fantasy Football League, after less than two years on air. The news was confirmed by the show’s producer, Spencer Millman, who took to social media to announce that the show will not be returning for another season.
Fantasy Football League, a mix of football discussions and comedy sketches, was a reboot of the 1990s original fronted by Frank Skinner and David Baddiel. The show made its return in September 2022 with comedians Matt Lucas and Elis James hosting the new-look version.
The cancellation of Fantasy Football League comes as another blow to Sky Sports, following the axing of long-running shows like Soccer AM and the major overhaul of Soccer Saturday, which saw Jeff Stelling leave his role as presenter.
Throughout its 20-month run on Sky, Fantasy Football League featured a lineup of big-name special guests, including former football stars like Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, and Jack Wilshere. The show also welcomed guests like Gabriel Agbonlahor, Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Pedro Mendes.
Presenter Andrew Mensah was a weekly contributor on the show, alongside hosts Lucas and James. Despite the cancellation, the producer expressed gratitude to the production team, crew, writers, and guests who made the show possible, as well as the viewers who supported the revamped version of the classic show.
Fans of Fantasy Football League will surely miss the unique blend of football banter and comedy that the show brought to their screens. As Sky Sports continues to evolve its programming lineup, viewers can expect more changes and new shows in the future.
