Father organizes charity football tournament in memory of son who died from brain tumour
Football fan Jayden Lamerton may have passed away at the young age of six, but his memory lives on through a charity football tournament organized by his father, Jamie Lamerton. The five-a-side competition, named after Jayden, will take place at Harpers Football Centre in Plymouth this Sunday.
Jayden lost his battle with an incurable brain tumor in May last year, leaving his family devastated. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Plymouth Hospitals Charity’s Secret Garden, a special place where Jayden spent his final moments surrounded by loved ones.
Jamie Lamerton shared that Jayden’s diagnosis came just before Christmas in 2022, with doctors giving him only a few months to live. Originally planned to spend his final days at a hospice, Jayden’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading him to the Secret Garden at Derriford Hospital, where he eventually passed away.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Jayden and his family were able to create lasting memories, visiting football grounds and receiving special items like a signed England shirt from Jill Scott. Jamie, a Manchester United fan, expressed that he would give up all the football experiences if it meant having Jayden back.
The upcoming tournament is a way for Jamie to give back to the hospital that provided comfort and care during their difficult time. Starting at 09:30 BST, the event promises to be a day filled with football, fun, and most importantly, honoring the memory of a young football fan who touched the hearts of many.
