David Bedingham’s scintillating knock of 138, which included 13 fours and eight sixes, propelled Durham to a commanding position on day two of their County Championship game against Worcestershire in Kidderminster.
Bedingham, who has been in fine form since making his Test debut for South Africa, continued his impressive run with a blistering innings that saw him reach his century off just 79 deliveries. His partnership with captain Scott Borthwick, who contributed 75 runs, laid the foundation for Durham’s dominant position in the match.
The duo put on a third-wicket stand of 195 runs in just 34 overs, leaving Worcestershire with a daunting task to avoid a defeat. Despite Borthwick’s dismissal, Durham extended their lead to 379 runs by the end of the day with five wickets still in hand.
Durham’s bowlers also played a crucial role in their team’s success, with Ben Raine, Matthew Potts, and Paul Coughlin all picking up three wickets each as they skittled Worcestershire out for 184. Jake Libby was the lone warrior for Worcestershire, scoring a composed 61 runs.
Nathan Smith made an impact with the ball for Worcestershire, picking up early wickets to put Durham under pressure. However, Bedingham’s sublime innings proved to be the difference-maker as he guided his team to a commanding position in the match.
With Durham in control of the game, Worcestershire will need a special effort to stage a comeback in the remaining days of the match. Bedingham’s heroics have put his team in a strong position, and they will be looking to capitalize on their advantage in the upcoming sessions.
