Condor Ferries Launches Travel Fund to Support Channel Islands Athletes

Condor Ferries has announced the launch of a travel fund aimed at supporting athletes from the Channel Islands in attending events and competitions overseas. The initiative, which is a partnership with Jersey Sport and Guernsey Sports Commission, will provide successful applicants with UK and overseas travel worth £5,000 a year.

The travel fund is targeted towards athletes aged 13 to 23 who usually travel with sports equipment or vehicles. Five individual bursaries of £1,000 will be granted to athletes across five different sports on each island. Graham Chester, operations director for the Sports Commission, emphasized the importance of competing and training off-island for young sportspeople, noting that the cost of travel can often be a barrier.

Condor Ferries expressed their excitement about being involved in the partnership, with Justin Amey, head of sales and marketing, stating that the goal is to help Islanders achieve their sporting ambitions off-island. The company hopes to assist young athletes in realizing their dreams and potentially representing the Channel Islands on a larger stage.

The travel fund, separate from Condor’s community fund, will be available from April 2024. The support provided by Condor will increase travel opportunities for aspiring athletes, allowing them to access training and competitions in the UK, Jersey, and France. This initiative is a significant step towards nurturing local talent and helping athletes reach their full potential in the world of sports.
