Simona Zavieka Aims to Put Thetford on the Map as National Amateur Boxing Champion
In an exciting turn of events, 20-year-old boxer Simona Zavieka from Thetford Amateur Boxing Club is set to compete in the National Amateur Championships this Saturday at Derby Arena. Zavieka, who hails from Norfolk, is the only boxer from the East of England to make it to the finals in the 63-66kg category, where she will face off against favorite Dionne Burman.
With hopes of putting Thetford “on the map,” Zavieka expressed her excitement for the upcoming match, crediting her success to her dedicated coaches. After securing victories in the Eastern Counties title earlier this year, as well as in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the national championship, Zavieka is determined to clinch the title.
Drawing inspiration from boxing legends such as Frank Bruno, Ricky Hatton, and Nicola Adams, Zavieka aspires to follow in their footsteps and eventually turn professional. Assisting her on this journey is Roni Dean, a former Norfolk fighter who transitioned from amateur to professional boxing. Dean, who started her career at Thetford ABC, has been a mentor and friend to Zavieka, providing support and guidance throughout her training.
As Zavieka gears up for the championship bout, she remains grateful for Dean’s encouragement and believes in her ability to bring home the title. With the support of her coaches, teammates, and role models, Zavieka is poised to make a name for herself in the boxing world and continue the legacy of champions from Thetford Amateur Boxing Club.
