USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships Coming to Charleston, WV in Two Weeks
The excitement is building in Charleston, West Virginia as the city prepares to host the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships for the first time ever. With just two weeks to go until the event kicks off on May 14th, preparations are in full swing to welcome professional and up-and-coming cyclists from across the country and around the world.
One of the key aspects of the preparation has been recruiting volunteers to serve as Course Marshals along the race routes. These volunteers will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of both participants and spectators throughout the six-day event. Their responsibilities will include blocking intersections, managing vehicular traffic, and ensuring that no one crosses the race course during the events.
The championships will feature four different categories of races, including Time Trials, the Criterium, and the U23 and Elite Road Races. Each race will start and end at Haddad Riverfront Park along the Kanawha Boulevard, with the most challenging event being the 13-mile Elite Road Races on the weekend.
Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Tim Brady emphasized the importance of community involvement in making the event a success. He encouraged spectators to come out and support the participants, highlighting key viewing areas such as City Center at Slack Plaza and the Shops at Bridge Road.
Brady also addressed concerns about traffic disruptions during the event, assuring residents that detours and rolling closures will be in place to minimize delays. He emphasized the positive impact that the championships will have on the city, both in terms of attracting visitors and raising Charleston’s profile as a cycling destination.
Overall, the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships promise to be an exciting and action-packed event for both participants and spectators alike. With the support of volunteers and the community, Charleston is gearing up to showcase the best of professional cycling in the heart of West Virginia.
