Join the Round the Wrekin Sportive Cycle Ride on May 19!
The Round the Wrekin Sportive cycle ride is gearing up for another exciting year, set to take place on Sunday, May 19. Starting and finishing at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club in Wall Heath, cyclists will have the opportunity to choose from three different routes through the picturesque Shropshire countryside.
Now in its seventh year, the event has become a staple in the cycling community, attracting over 400 participants in 2023 and raising an impressive £32,000 for Compton Care, a charity that supports individuals with life-limiting conditions and their families.
Former world champion cyclist and Compton Care patron, Hugh Porter MBE, has been a strong advocate for the event, emphasizing the importance of giving back through sport. Alongside his wife Anita Lonsbrough MBE, Hugh has participated in the event for the past five years, highlighting the camaraderie and sense of community that the sportive brings.
With entries still open, community and events fundraiser Cara Bright encourages cyclists of all levels to sign up and join in on the fun. From the family-friendly “Hugh Porter Challenge” to the challenging 100-mile “Epic” route, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Participants can look forward to receiving a Compton Care Round the Wrekin 2024 medal, as well as enjoying finish line food and energy gels provided by event supporter HIGH5. The event promises a day filled with excitement and a supportive atmosphere, all while raising funds for a worthy cause.
