Join the Round the Wrekin Sportive Cycle Ride on May 19 to Support Compton Care

The Round the Wrekin Sportive cycle ride is gearing up for another exciting year, with the event set to take place on Sunday, May 19. Starting and finishing at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club in Wall Heath, cyclists will have the opportunity to choose from three different routes through the picturesque Shropshire countryside.

Now in its seventh year, the event has become a staple in the cycling community, attracting over 400 participants in 2023 and raising an impressive £32,000 for Compton Care, a charity that supports individuals with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Former world champion cyclist and Compton Care patron, Hugh Porter MBE, has been a strong advocate for the event, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community through sporting endeavors. Alongside his wife Anita Lonsbrough MBE, Porter has participated in the event for the past five years and is looking forward to the camaraderie and excitement of this year’s ride.

With options ranging from a family-friendly 21-mile route to a challenging 100-mile trek, there is something for cyclists of all levels to enjoy. Participants can look forward to receiving a Compton Care Round the Wrekin 2024 medal and enjoying finish line food provided by event supporter HIGH5.

Community and events fundraiser at Compton Care, Cara Bright, encourages cycling enthusiasts to sign up for the event, highlighting the positive impact the ride has had on patients and their families over the years.
