Nicholas Paul in Contention for Medal at Pan American Track Cycling Championships

Nicholas Paul continues to shine at the 2024 Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Los Angeles, California, as he remains in contention for a medal in the men’s individual sprint event. After securing the keirin gold earlier in the competition, Paul showcased his dominance by defeating Canadian Ryan Dodyk in the quarterfinals in two straight rides.

Training partner Jair Tjon En Fa of Suriname also impressed, winning his heat to advance to the next round. Colombian riders Santiago Morales Ramirez and Cristian David Ortega Fontalvo also secured victories in their respective heats, setting up an exciting semi-final lineup.

Meanwhile, TT endurance cyclist Akil Campbell, who claimed bronze in the men’s scratch race, began competing in the men’s omnium event. Despite a fifth-place finish in the 10K scratch race, Campbell showed his strength by finishing third in the tempo race.

In the women’s events, Makaira Wallace and Phoebe Sandy represented TT in the 500-metre time trial but unfortunately did not advance past the qualification round. Colombian Martha Bayona Pineda set the pace with the fastest time among the qualifiers.

Additionally, TT’s Alexi Ramirez finished eighth in the women’s omnium, which was won by American Jennifer Valente. The competition continues with Campbell set to compete in the points race and the elimination race as he aims for a podium finish.

As the action heats up at the Pan American Track Cycling Championships, all eyes are on Nicholas Paul and the rest of the TT team as they strive for success on the track. Stay tuned for more thrilling races and potential medal victories.
