OCBC Partners with Decathlon and SCF for Teach-A-Child-To-Cycle Program

OCBC has once again teamed up with Decathlon and the Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF) for their corporate social responsibility programme, “Teach-a-Child-to-Cycle”. This initiative aims to provide 43 less privileged children with brand-new bicycles from Decathlon and essential cycling skills training from SCF trainers.

The beneficiaries, carefully selected from partners Care Corner Singapore, SportCares, and Beyond Social Services, will undergo three training sessions to learn fundamental cycling skills. In addition to the bicycles, Decathlon will also provide safety gear worth $100 to ensure the children are equipped for their cycling journey.

The highlight of the programme will be the participation of the beneficiaries in OCBC Cycle’s Mighty Savers® Kids and Family Rides on 11 May 2024. This event will not only give the children a chance to showcase their newly acquired skills but also allow them to experience the joy of cycling in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Mr. Mark Yeo, a dedicated OCBC volunteer, expressed his gratitude for being part of the children’s cycling journey. He emphasized the importance of sports, like cycling, in building self-confidence and social skills in children. The programme aims to instill resilience and a sense of accomplishment in the young participants, paving the way for a brighter future.

Muhammad Arsyad Zafri bin Abdullah, one of the beneficiaries, shared his excitement about learning a new skill and participating in the upcoming event. He expressed his newfound interest in sports and hoped to continue cycling beyond the programme.

Overall, the Teach-a-Child-to-Cycle programme not only teaches children a valuable life skill but also provides them with a positive outlet for physical activity and personal growth. With the support of partners like Decathlon and SCF, these children are set to embark on a fulfilling cycling journey that will benefit them for years to come.
