Nicholas Paul in Contention for Medal at Pan American Track Cycling Championships

Nicholas Paul continues to shine at the 2024 Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Los Angeles, California. The Trinidad and Tobago cyclist, who already secured keirin gold earlier in the competition, was still in the running for a medal in the men’s individual sprint.

In the quarterfinals, Paul showcased his dominance by defeating Canadian Ryan Dodyk in two straight rides. His training partner, Jair Tjon En Fa of Suriname, also advanced to the semi-finals after winning his heat against Colombian Kevin Santiago Quintero Chavarro.

The competition was fierce as Colombian Cristian David Ortega Fontalvo faced off against Canadian Tyler Rorke in a thrilling battle, with Fontalvo ultimately coming out on top.

Paul was set to compete against Santiago Morales Ramirez in the semi-finals, while En Fa was scheduled to face Fontalvo in another exciting matchup.

Meanwhile, TT endurance cyclist Akil Campbell, who had previously won bronze in the men’s scratch race, continued to impress in the multiple race men’s omnium event. Campbell finished fifth in the 10K scratch race and third in the tempo race, showcasing his versatility on the track.

In the women’s events, the TT pair of Makaira Wallace and Phoebe Sandy unfortunately did not advance past the qualification round in the 500-metre time trial. However, TT endurance rider Alexi Ramirez put up a strong performance, finishing eighth in the women’s omnium.

As the competition heats up, all eyes are on Nicholas Paul as he aims to add another medal to his collection and further solidify his status as one of the top cyclists in the region.
