Luke Rowe to retire from professional cycling at end of 2024 season

After a successful 13-year career as a professional cyclist, Luke Rowe has announced his early retirement at the end of the 2024 season due to a recent injury. The Welshman, who has been a key member of the Ineos Grenadiers team for the past 12 years, has decided to hang up his wheels and spend more time with his family in Wales.

Rowe, known for his role as a super-domestique in cycling, has been a crucial support rider for top cyclists like Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, and Egan Bernal in their victories. His impressive career includes riding in eight consecutive Tour de France races and winning stages in the Classics.

Despite his latest setback from a crash during a race in Belgium, Rowe is determined to make a comeback and target the Tour of Britain as his final race. He expressed his desire to end his career on a high note by racing in front of home fans in the UK.

Ineos Grenadiers chief executive, John Allert, praised Rowe for his contributions to the team, highlighting his racing skills and positive personality both on and off the bike. Rowe’s dedication and commitment to the sport have left a lasting impact on the cycling community.

As Rowe prepares for the next chapter in his life, fans and teammates alike will surely miss his presence on the road. His legacy as a respected and talented cyclist will continue to inspire future generations in the world of professional cycling.
