Olympic Champion Kristina Vogel’s Ongoing Drama: From Gold Medals to Life-Threatening Pulmonary Embolism
Olympic track cycling champion Kristina Vogel (33) has once again found herself in the midst of a dramatic turn of events. The former athlete, who is now paraplegic, suffered a pulmonary embolism last Friday and has been hospitalized in Berlin since Saturday. Vogel revealed to BILD, “A few more hours at home and I would have been dead.”
The blood clots in her lungs were successfully removed, providing immediate relief. Vogel, known for her sarcastic humor, quipped, “Apparently I’m really good at drama.” This latest health scare adds to the list of dramatic moments in Vogel’s life, including her gold medal wins at the London and Rio Olympics.
The most life-altering incident occurred in Cottbus in 2018 when Vogel was involved in a devastating crash during training. Despite the severity of her injuries, she was able to survive with the help of doctors and months of rehabilitation. Now, in 2024, Vogel faced another life-threatening situation but was once again saved by medical professionals.
Reflecting on her experiences, Vogel expressed gratitude for the support she has received, especially from her friend and former world champion Maximilian Levy. Despite the challenges she has faced, Vogel remains determined and had hoped her next hospital stay would be when she becomes a mother.
As Vogel continues her recovery journey, her resilience and strength serve as an inspiration to many. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
