BDS threats to cancel Israeli cycling team an ‘obtuse moral inversion’ – J-Wire
The Israel-Premier Tech cycling team is facing threats from the BDS movement to disrupt the upcoming Tour de France and Giro d’Italia races due to their participation. Co-owner Sylvan Adams has called these threats an “obtuse moral inversion” by haters of the Jewish state.
Adams emphasized that it was Hamas who initiated a genocidal campaign of violence, including murder, torture, and abduction, on an unimaginable scale. In response, Israel has been defending itself while making efforts to minimize civilian casualties.
The BDS movement accused Adams of attempting to “sanitize” Israel’s military actions through sports, calling to “block the roads to genocide.” Despite these challenges, Adams remains committed to improving Israel’s image through sports and cultural activities.
The upcoming Giro d’Italia and Tour de France races are significant events in the cycling world, and the BDS movement’s calls for protests add to the global isolation of Israel following the war in Gaza. However, Adams and the Israel-Premier Tech team are determined to continue competing and promoting values of tolerance and bridge-building.
Adams, who has been a strong advocate for Israel on the international stage, has made significant contributions to the country, including donations to Ben-Gurion University and investments in sports infrastructure in the Gaza border area. Despite the challenges and anti-Israel sentiment, Adams remains optimistic about Israel’s future, stating, “We’ve always come back stronger, and we will come back stronger and rebuild this place. We are here to stay.”
