Geraint Thomas ready to lead Ineos Grenadiers at Giro d’Italia
Geraint Thomas is gearing up for a strong performance at the upcoming Giro d’Italia as he leads the powerhouse Ineos Grenadiers team. The former Tour de France winner is aiming to conquer both Grand Tours in 2024, after narrowly missing out on victory in Italy last year.
With a talented squad that includes top 10 Giro finishers Thymen Arensman and Tobias Foss, Thomas is confident in the team’s abilities. “We have a strong line-up and there is a good bond with this group,” he stated. “We have spent a lot of time together at training camp – we know what we need to do and are all feeling super-motivated to get the job done and deliver.”
Thomas, who will be competing in his sixth Giro, has had his share of setbacks in the past, including crashing out in 2017 and 2020, as well as losing out on the title in 2023 by a mere 15 seconds to Primoz Roglic. Despite the absence of Roglic in this year’s race, all eyes will be on Tadej Pogacar, the hot favorite for victory.
“Our plan is to be aggressive, take the race on and look for every opportunity to add pressure and take time,” Thomas explained. With a busy summer ahead, including the Tour de France, Thomas is focused on arriving at the Giro in peak condition. “My only focus now is the Giro and arriving there in my best shape possible,” he emphasized.
As the cycling world eagerly anticipates the start of the Giro d’Italia in Turin on May 4th, all eyes will be on Geraint Thomas and his Ineos Grenadiers team as they aim for glory in one of the most prestigious races on the calendar.
