Tour of the Basque Country: Tour Winner Vingegaard Transported Away in Ambulance After Serious Fall
The Tour of the Basque Country took a dramatic turn as Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard was involved in a serious crash during the fourth stage of the race. The Danish cyclist, along with Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic, suffered a violent fall on a descent, leaving Vingegaard motionless on the ground and requiring transportation to the hospital in an ambulance.
The images of Vingegaard lying still on the ground raised concerns among fans and fellow cyclists alike. The severity of his injuries is still unknown, but his team, Visma, confirmed that he was conscious as he was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Evenepoel and Roglic also sustained injuries in the crash, with Evenepoel being taken to the hospital for treatment. Roglic, who was wearing the yellow jersey, was able to leave the scene in a team car, albeit limping from the impact of the fall.
The crash occurred in a right-hand bend around 35 kilometers from the finish line in Legutio, with several other riders also falling as a result. The race, which serves as a preparation for the upcoming Tour de France, has been marred by multiple accidents, including the recent fall of Belgian star Wout van Aert and German cyclist Lennard Kämna.
Kämna, who suffered “numerous injuries” in a training accident in Tenerife, is currently in stable condition and receiving optimal care in the hospital. The cycling community is hoping for a speedy recovery for all the riders involved in these unfortunate incidents.
