The picturesque seaside town of Silloth is gearing up for the return of the Cumberland Cobbler and Solway Cycling Festival, set to take place on June 8, 2023. Following the success of last year’s event, this year promises to be even more thrilling with a new and challenging route that will put cyclists to the test.
Organized by the Carlisle Cycling Association, in collaboration with British Cycling, the festival will feature five circuit races throughout the day, starting with the Mini Cobbler at 10.30am and culminating in the Men’s Cobbler at 2.30pm. With tight corners, a cobbled stretch, and long stretches of tarmac, the races are sure to be action-packed and full of excitement.
In addition to the races, the festival will offer a variety of cycling activities for all ages, including jump tracks, time trial courses, skills challenges, and balance bike races. Attendees can also look forward to Q&As with GB cyclist Philip Hines, live music, fun fairs, and a producers market.
Funded in part by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Solway Cycling Festival is a celebration of the stunning cycling routes around Silloth, including the famous Hadrian’s Wall route. Councillor Anne Quilter, portfolio holder for Vibrant and Healthy Places at Cumberland Council, expressed her excitement for the event, highlighting the town centre cycling race and producers market as must-see attractions.
With the deadline to enter the races fast approaching on May 25, cyclists are encouraged to sign up soon to secure their spot. Traders interested in having a stall at the producers market can contact ellie.jones@cumberland.gov.uk for more information.
