Beloved Cyclist Marc De Vleeschauwer Dies During Cycling Tour
The cycling community is mourning the loss of Marc De Vleeschauwer, a dedicated member of WTC De Vlaamse Ardennen who tragically passed away during a cycling tour on Sunday. The 72-year-old cyclist became unwell while riding with the C team in Vloesberg and unfortunately succumbed to his condition at Ronse hospital.
Chairman Bart Roos of WTC Flemish Ardennes recounted the heartbreaking moment when he received the news of Marc’s fall. Despite efforts from club members and local residents to resuscitate him, Marc could not be saved. Roos expressed his deep sorrow, having known Marc for 17 years as a valued member of the club.
In addition to his involvement in WTC De Vlaamse Ardennen, Marc was also a board member of OKRA Sport Brakel-Lierde and the Brakel senior council. He played a crucial role in organizing and leading cycling and walking tours for both associations, leaving a lasting impact on his fellow members.
Eric Van Steenberge, chairman of OKRA and the senior council, praised Marc’s dedication and highlighted his contributions to the community. Marc’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, and a solemn funeral liturgy is scheduled to take place on Friday to honor his memory.
Marc De Vleeschauwer is survived by his wife, son, daughter, and four grandchildren, who will undoubtedly cherish the memories of their beloved family member. The cycling world has lost a passionate enthusiast, but his legacy will continue to inspire others to pursue their love for the sport.
