The International Cricket Council (ICC) made the announcement on Wednesday, revealing that the upcoming tournament will be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.
Bolt, who hails from Jamaica, is no stranger to breaking records and creating history. His remarkable achievements at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where he dominated the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m races in world record times, have solidified his status as a sporting legend. The sprinter’s incredible record of 9.58 seconds in the 100m race still stands unbeaten.
Expressing his excitement about his new role as ambassador for the T20 World Cup, Bolt shared, “I am thrilled to be an ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket has always held a special place in my heart, coming from the Caribbean where the sport is a way of life.”
Bolt also highlighted the significance of bringing cricket to the USA market, emphasizing the potential for the sport to expand its reach and popularity. With the T20 World Cup paving the way for cricket’s inclusion in the LA Olympics in 2028, Bolt sees this as a monumental opportunity for the sport.
As an ambassador for the event, Bolt will play a crucial role in promoting the tournament, starting with a special appearance in the release of the official anthem next week. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice expressed his delight in having Bolt on board, stating, “Usain Bolt is a global icon, and we are thrilled to have him as an Ambassador for the T20 World Cup. His passion for cricket makes him the perfect fit for this role.”
With Bolt’s star power and love for cricket, his involvement in the T20 World Cup is sure to bring an added level of excitement and energy to the tournament, setting the stage for a thrilling competition in 2024.
